My Training and Facilitation Approach

My training and facilitation approach is informed by my values: Hope & Positivity; Curiosity & Creativity; Social Justice & Responsibility; Diversity, Equity & Radical Inclusion; Relationships, Collaboration & Co-Creation and Transparency, Integrity & Accountability.

My training and facilitation approach is:

  • Hopeful and Positive – I use a strength-based approach that identifies and builds on what each participant already knows and the skills they already have. I also nurture a hopeful growth mindset that motivates participants to use their learning to initiate and implement positive change.
  • Inclusive – I use inclusive practices to ensure all participants feel welcome and valued and able to engage in ways that are intentional, meaningful and authentic. I also use a proactive and collaborative approach to engage with people that are excluded to identify the obstacles and barriers that prevent them from participating and help them find ways of addressing them to ensure their inclusion.
  • Interactive - I design learning experiences that position participants as co-creators of knowledge. Through case studies, role plays, interactive group discussions, and collaborative exercises, participants engage actively with content, while drawing on their own rich experiences.
  • Cultural Awareness and Competencies – I specialise in fostering cultural awareness and competencies to help develop understanding, communication, connections, relationships and collaborations across divides.
  • Encouraging Curiosity, Creativity and Reflections – I use learning and teaching practices that encourage participants to be curious, creative and reflective. This includes setting aside time for participants to explore and reflect, enabling choices and autonomy and seeing mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Bridging Theory and Practice – I design authentic learning experiences that focus on using theory to inform practice. Through real world scenarios participants reflect on how theory applies to their context, how it can improve their practices and how they can affect social change.
  • Creating Safe and Brave Spaces – I specialise in creating and holding safe and brave learning spaces, that carefully balance the need for psychological safety and constructive challenge. These spaces encourage participants to engage in dialogue, where they freely share their experiences, opinions and ideas while also allowing them to explore and discuss their disagreements. They also encourage participants to develop their relationships and collaborations.
  • Co-Created, Needs-Based and Adaptive Design and Delivery – Whenever possible I use co-creation approaches to design and deliver training. If co-creation is not possible, I still strive to conduct a pre-training needs assessment to understand participants’ specific requirements and context. Participants’ feedback is also always diligently used to inform and adapt future sessions.
  • Critical Intersectional Lens – I use a critical lens to highlight how intersectional identities affect people’ lived-experiences especially concerning the impact of systemic inequalities. I also focus on how participants can affect social change including challenging and changing power structures and dynamics.
