Understanding, Challenging and Changing Dominant Narratives

In this series of Power Talks, we will deepen our understanding of dominant narratives and the roles, they play in society with a view to challenge and change them. Dominant narratives are the prevalent understandings, discourses and stories that shape our perceptions of people, issues and events. Dominant narratives are often used by powerful groups to justify the upholding of an existing social order that benefit them and disadvantages and marginalises other groups. They are often shared without any critical reflection on their validity, and they significantly influence public perception and policymaking. We will use this deeper understanding as the foundation for workshops, where we will discuss and plan for how we can effectively challenge and change harmful dominant narratives. The workshops that will run in the Autumn of 2026, will focus on dominant narratives in different fields such as migration, education, economics and politics.
